Exodus 3:2 (NIV) The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up.
There was Moses, standing in the very presence of God. The experience was so real that he had to cover his face. Moses knew without a doubt that God was speaking to him. And yet when God told him to go to Egypt and help his people, he actually questioned, argued, disagreed with this calling. Moses couldn’t believe God was choosing him.
We like to think that if we experienced something tangible and miraculous like a burning bush, we would never doubt God again. But the truth is that even those who witness amazing miracles can have trouble believing. We need to hear again what Jesus said to Thomas after the Resurrection: “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me” (John 20:29). I know this at times is my experience and response.
To take our lives back, we really don’t need a burning bush. What we need is the courage to act on our faith even when we’re not completely sure. And our loving God, who supplies us with everything we need, will take it from there. If you know I am right today, just say Amen!
Point to ponder- Why do you think people so often wish for a sign from God but then struggle with belief even if they get one? Many times you just have to say “I believe God”, and really believe God without seeing it in that moment. Have an amazing day.
