Word for the day “Dealing with Anxiety and Discontentment”

Philippian’s 4:6 (NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Christians have frequently relied upon a sense of peace as evidence of the Holy Spirit’s leading. It is common to hear people say, “I just don’t have a peace about it.” I think that is legitimate. I would be concerned about the person who proceeds when his/her spirit is disturbed. God doesn’t lead through anxiety. We are to cast our anxiety upon Jesus, because He cares for us ( I Peter 5:7).

Still, a lot of money is spent on the temporary “cure” of anxiety and discontentment. People consume alcohol, take illegal drugs, turn to the refrigerator, have sex, mindlessly repeat mantras, and escape to cabins, boats and motor homes–all to reduce their anxiety and discontentment. One lady said, “Whenever I feel anxious, I go on a shopping spree!” In fact, Prescription drugs are regularly dispensed for the ails brought on by anxiety and discontentment.

The bartender, drug pushers, occult practitioner, and other peddlers of escapism all have one thing in common: They really don’t care about the consumer. They are out to make a profit at means necessary. Even worse, when the temporary “cure” wears off, we have to return to the same world with the added problem of hangovers and other negative consequences of fake healers. I know today’s message is for someone other than myself!

Point to ponder- Internally, we desperately need the peace of God: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6, 7). The awareness of a troubled spirit should drive us to find the peace of God by turning to the Lord and assuming our responsibility to use our minds.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for breaking through so many of our old anxieties and setting us free. But Lord today I ask You to free (us) me from those that remain, You are the only one that can set us free, Amen!

Kingdom Blessings,
Pastor James Baker, Jr.

  1. I find that when anxiety or fear sest in, there are 2 things that really resonate with me. One, first and foremost, I go to God. You cannot serve two masters and if I truly have faith in God then I MUST vanquish that fear -knowing That I am always under Gods care. Period. Second, I yield to divine Mind. Human mind/perception can be very tricky. Satan and his bag of tricks create many illusions, many of which are fueled by our fears. WE fuel it.
    Thanks for your post. Excellent!!
